Jay was a wonderful person and it makes me quite sad to know that he's no longer with us.
Before our last reunion, I knew he was ailing and thought about making a side trip up to Newton the day my flight got into Wichita. I decided against doing so -- a decision made because it has been so long since we had been in contact and I was in a time constraint with meeting my hosts in Hutchinson that evening for dinner.
I regret that decision now. The adage certainly holds true that we need to reach out to our cherished friends and loved ones every chance we get. Life is a gift and not to be taken for granted.
I will think of Jay always. He had a finely tuned wit and intelligence; a true original!
I miss Jay too. He was very sick for quite some time. I visited his mom a couple times, she still lives on Van Buren. I tried to get Jay to go to our last reunion, but he just wasn't up to it. I hadn't seen him in a long time before he passed. I did speak at his funeral though. Great guy.
