IMPORTANT 50TH YEAR REUNION UPDATE
After much discussion, the reunion committee has made the difficult decision to postpone our 50th reunion, tentatively scheduled for September 24-25, 2021. We didn’t come to this decision lightly, and wanted to share with you why we think it’s best to wait until either late spring or early fall, 2022. The new date will be announced later this year.
The simple truth of the matter is, you can’t plan a reunion around assumptions when you’re in the middle of a global pandemic. In spite of a drop in infection rates and the promising hope offered with vaccination, there isn’t a crystal ball to predict where we will be in 6 months.
Even if CDC guidelines have given a green light to large gatherings by September, we feel there will be classmates who would not feel comfortable with attending. It would be a shame to have a smaller turnout for our 50th.
Being responsible for class reunion funds, we think there is too much financial risk with our original date. We would potentially risk losing a venue deposit due to cancellation or if the venue should go out of business. Out-of-town classmates might also be impacted with trip cancellations.
We know this will be disappointing to many of you. We’re disappointed too. But we can all agree that a 50th high school reunion should be our best yet. It will be better attended, more relaxed and more meaningful if we can enjoy our time together without restrictions, sharing memories and catching up with one another as we celebrate a return to a new normal.
We look forward to seeing ALL OF your smiling faces in 2022!
